What Happens in Vegas--Could Be Good For Green Building?
The city of Las Vegas has announced it will begin a Green Building Rebate Program to stimulate new green building construction and provide energy efficiency retrofits to existing buildings.
The program provides rebates for new construction and existing commercial and residential retrofits for builders who construct buildings or projects to one of the following green building program standards:
- Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED)
- The Southern Nevada Green Building Partnership
- Green Globes
- NV Energy’s Energy Plus New Homes program
- NV Energy’s Sure Bet program
Rebates will be available for expedited plans checks, building permit fees and certifications. In addition, the building or project will be recognized on the city’s Web site or in future promotional materials.
Newly constructed buildings or projects that begin after July 1 are eligible. The builder chooses the respective green building program and notifies the city of its intent to participate. Upon successful completion of the program, the builder requests the eligible rebates, which will be paid to the builder. The Las Vegas City Council has established a special green building revenue fund so rebates will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis contingent upon fund availability.
